Gordon and I are dog-sitting. My parents left for Boston yesterday, so we get to stay at their house with Gracie. Gracie is a golden-doodle (1/2 golden retriever, 1/2 poodle). I know she doesn't look like it, but she is. And we love her. She really does have a cute personality.
Now, if you know anything about this dog, then you know that she is certifiably crazy. No joke. She does the wierdest stuff. Also, if you know anything about my parents, you know that they spoil her like crazy and thus feeding her weird habits.
First of all, she can't handle a lack of attention. Gordon came home last night and as soon as he came over to give me a hug, she started squealing (yes squealing... she doesn't bark much). Then she stuck her head in between us and dropped her squeaky toy on our feet. She did this anytime we were talking to each other and ignoring her.
Second, when she is outside, she will stand by the door, crying and squealing. She does this not because she wants to come inside, but because she would like to be outside with the door open. She wants the option to come inside.
Third, (and this is possibly her strangest habit) she does weird things in the night. For the most part, she sleeps in my parents closet. But in the middle of the night, she will start to squeal. I assume she has to go to the bathroom, so I get up and put her outside. She eats some of her kibble and then goes out into the backyard. I go back to sleep. Then there is this scratching noise on the side of the wall by my parents room. Apparently, Gracie had an itch and rubbing herself up against the stucco on the outside wall feels really good to her. Then she begins to bark. I let her back in. I asked my mom about this and apparently she does it every night. WEIRD.
So this next week should be an adventure in dog-sitting. I am leaving for Santa Barbara tonight to be in my cousin's wedding tomorrow so Gordon is on his own to deal with the dog and her strange nocturnal behaviors.
Needless to say, it is going to be an interesting week!
